Suame Residents Vent Anger on Majority Leader Over Poor Roads

A section of the constituents of Suame, in the Ashanti Region, on Monday nearly assaulted their MP, Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, for neglect during his many years as their representative in Parliament.

The police, led by the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Afful Boakye-Yiadom, had to intervene and whisk the legislator away to prevent the angry crowd from attacking him.

However, while some hooted, others splashed sachets of water at the MP and his team.

Residents in the constituents reportedly staged a protest last week over the poor state of their roads, particularly the Suame Roundabout-Maakro stretch of the Kumasi Techiman Road, following which contractors returned to the site. No sooner had Hon. Mensah-Bonsu prepared to address the constituents on the resumption than the angry protestors charged at him.

Hon. Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, who has been MP for the constituency since 1997, told the press before he was escorted away that he recognizes the plight of the people, and assured of the timely completion of the stretch.

“I am the face of the government, so if they are really angry that it’s been a while since the scrapping of the surface and dust has killed them, certainly when they see any government official, they will vent their spleen on the person, so I am not worried,” he said.

The Sikaman Times will follow up on this development.
