The Supreme Court has ordered the Electoral Commission to suspend all preparations for the Kpandai parliamentary rerun until it determines a legal challenge against the High Court decision that ordered the fresh election.
The directive was issued on Tuesday by a five-member panel of the Supreme Court of Ghana, presided over by Justice Gabriel Pwamang. The court said the move was to prevent the electoral process from overtaking its consideration of a certiorari application filed by the New Patriotic Party’s Mathew Nyindam.
The application seeks to overturn the High Court judgment that ordered a rerun of the parliamentary election in the Kpandai Constituency.
By the order, the Electoral Commission is barred from taking any steps or engaging in any activity related to organising or conducting the rerun until the Supreme Court reaches a final decision on the matter.
When the case was called, the apex court adjourned proceedings to January 13, 2026, to allow time for further consideration of the issues raised by the parties.
The Kpandai parliamentary rerun has been the subject of sustained legal contestation following disputes arising from the original election, prompting the Supreme Court’s intervention.
The ruling effectively puts the constituency’s electoral timetable on hold, as political parties, voters and election officials await the court’s final determination early next year.
