The long-overdue Damango chieftaincy dispute duly resolved
ShareTweetSendShareSend

We can recall the long-standing Damango chieftaincy dispute since 2016, after the demise of the late Damangowura Jakpa James Tuntumba.

This dispute came up as a result of two factions both claiming to be the rightful successors of the demise of Damongowura after kingmakers and elders settled on Damangowura Seidu Kelly Boresa I, and customs and traditions were duly observed. This caused a banter between the two factions, which retarded all developmental progress in the Damango municipality and adversely affected security in the regional capital, Damongo, for quite a decade now.

Allah being so wonderful, the kingmakers, upon several engagements and broader consultations, have moved to resolve the Damango chieftaincy dispute today, Friday, November 24, 2023.

The kingmakers and elders who collaborated to resolve the disputes include Jira Sonyorwura, Jira Chorowura, Jira Mankpanwura, Jira Kakpandewura, Jira Ngbaripewura, Queen Mother’s, and the traditional clergy.

After the validation was done at the Jakpa palace today, all paramount chiefs, sub-chiefs, divisional chiefs, queen mothers, youth, Sakpares, and Kamaras people—Blacksmith, Wanjomus—all witnessed the confirmation.

In conclusion, the Yagbonwura and his traditional kingmakers thanked the Gonja kingdom for their patience in this protracted chieftaincy issue and advised the new chief to work hand in hand with traditional setups, for it’s only tradition that can confirm a successor to a chief.
