Two people have died after a microlight aircraft crashed and caught fire near a school park in Tema Community One on Monday, emergency services say.
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority said the aircraft, registered 9G-ADV, was travelling from Ho to Accra when it went down at about 14:18 GMT (just after 2pm local time). It lost radio contact at the same time. Two people were on board.
The crash occurred at Oninku Drive School Park, close to a daycare facility. Witnesses reported seeing smoke rising from the site as emergency teams were dispatched.
The Ghana National Fire Service said it received an alert shortly before 13:00 about a fire in the area. Firefighters found a burning aircraft near the wall of the preschool.
By the time they arrived, teachers and pupils had already evacuated and gathered outside. No injuries were reported among those at the school.
Fire crews, supported by personnel from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, extinguished the blaze and secured the area.
Two bodies were later recovered from the wreckage and taken to a morgue for preservation and autopsy, the fire service said.
The site has been cordoned off while investigations continue. Officials say aviation experts will examine the wreckage to determine the cause of the crash.
Deputy Defence Minister, Ernest Brogya Genfi, said the aircraft was privately owned and not part of the armed forces.
Authorities say further details will be released as inquiries progress.
