Renowned journalist and 2017 GJA journalist of the year, Bernardinho Koku Avle, has charged Ghanaians to be fearless and bold in speaking the truth to power and stop the fear that they may be attacked if they do so.
According to him, he could equally stay aloof to most of the happenings in this country because he can also be afraid of his own life being attacked by the people he tells the truth, but he decided otherwise because he wants the peace of every Ghanaian, particularly the marginalised.
Mr. Avle stated that after discussing a very crucial topic on air, the next thing he observed was that the whole thing content was dragged to social media, particularly Facebook, adding that while many chastised him, others praised him for bringing up that topic.
“And so I spoke for about 45 minutes; people have cut it short for six minutes, and they are sharing it on social media. Some people are happy while others are insulting me,” the broadcaster explained.
Mr. Avle, who is also the General Manager of Citi FM/Citi TV, said though one will be attacked for telling people the truth, Ghanaians must ignore the attack side because their purpose on earth is not to be insulted or recommended by many but that they live to fulfil their purpose on earth.
“I can also travel with my family to Dzelukope and live nicely or not to be on air, but I do it [come on air] every day at the risk of my life, which is also part of discipleship because the ministry is not preaching; it is standing in the place that God has given you and doing your work, do you understand?” he asked.
Mr. Avle further asserted that his place of preaching and living the Christ-like life is behind his microphone.
He added that once God has given each Ghanaian a place of work, they should each try to preach the truth to their fellow workers through the character and principles they have received from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mr. Avle shared this word of advice on February 7, 2024, during the opening day of the 2024 Bible Week Symposium organised by the Bible Society of Ghana.
Dubbed “The Bible: Guide for Peace, Unity, and Development, the 5-day symposium will end on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
Speaking on behalf of the organisers of the programme, General-Secretary of the Bible Society of Ghana, Very Rev. Dr. John Kwesi Addo Jr., called for peace before, during, and after the December elections.
He said peace is a very expensive commodity, which is not easily gotten when in scarcity, and has therefore charged the political parties as well as their followers to resort to peace in the absence of it.
Some individuals and institutions that mattered in the upcoming elections and represented the entire country were called upon to affirm peace ahead of the December polls.
The event featured representatives from the NPP, NDC, and PNC parties who affirmed their commitment to the peace of the country.
Also, there were representatives from the Ghana Police Service who affirmed on behalf of the security services, a student from Labone SHS who made the affirmation on behalf of the youth, and representatives from the judiciary and clergy, among other institutions.
