“We never chose roads over flyovers” – Ashanti NPP MPs fume at Otchere-Darko

The Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has firmly refuted claims by party member Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko suggesting that Ashanti MPs opted for community roads over flyovers, leading to the region’s current infrastructure challenges.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, October 6, 2025, the caucus described the remarks as “false, inaccurate, and misleading.”

“It is unfortunate and disappointing that such remarks would be made in a manner that seeks to malign and unfairly portray Ashanti MPs,” the statement read.

“We wish to place on record that no such meeting ever took place between Ashanti MPs and any person in authority, where such a choice or preference was made.”

The caucus emphasised that while they acknowledge the government’s developmental efforts in the Ashanti Region including improvements to community road networks, the redevelopment of the Kejetia Market, and the construction of schools and hospitals these achievements remain inadequate when weighed against the region’s contributions to the party’s political success.

“These efforts, while appreciated, remain insufficient when measured against the immense loyalty, support, and contribution of the Ashanti Region to the electoral success of the NPP.”

“The people of Ashanti have stood unwaveringly with the party, and it is only fair that their loyalty is rewarded with projects that reflect their central role in Ghana’s political and economic development,” the caucus stated.

The MPs reaffirmed their commitment to continue championing major infrastructure projects for the region, including flyovers, expressways, and modern interchanges that can stimulate trade and economic growth.

“Ashanti deserves not only community roads, but also modern interchanges, flyovers, expressways, and strategic infrastructure capable of driving economic activity and easing mobility for our citizens,” the statement added.
