President of the Association of Ghana StartUps (AGS), Solomon Adjei, has urged nominees of startups to work harder so their brands will be noticed internationally and globally.
Speaking at the Ghana Innovation and Startup Awards 2023, Mr. Adjei stated that nominations and awards are not enough without resilience, hard work, and determination.
He furthered that winning an award is not the end of achievement but rather a calling to go the extra mile.
“Oftentimes, people pick awards and just go and put them somewhere. Your award is not in the plaque.”
“Let us understand that the key focus should not be just the plaque. Even if you win the plaque, what happens next is what matters most. Not just taking the plaque and going to play somewhere else,” he said.
He added that the essence of the Ghana Innovation and Startup Awards is to give recognition, promotion, and support to startup businesses.
Mr. Adjei therefore encouraged the nominees to keep pushing forward and never give up so that they would eventually become winners in the end.
“The fact that you’re already on the list of the top 100 startups in Ghana and are here today means that you are already a winner.”
“Let people know that based on what I do, I have been recognised on this national platform, and based on that, I mean, I was part of the top 100. So, if you are a top 100 startup selected for the Ghana Innovation and Startup Awards, that alone is a plus for you,” he added.
He also disclosed that the association is working on the Ghana Startup and Innovation Bill to provide policies that will safeguard the innovative ideas of startups and make them flourish.
