The Deputy Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Assin North, Hon. Ntim Fordjour, has advised against the politicisation of the education sector.
He asserted that education is the future of this country, and schoolchildren should be instilled with the fear of God and also taken through 21st century learning in order to yield better returns for themselves and society rather than exposing them to partisan politics.
This, he believes, will ensure that the government’s significant investments in education, especially through the Free Senior High School policy, will not be in vain.
“If you witnessed the good happenings that took place here today, you will realise that 21st century education is taking place right here in Ghana, and one thing I keep saying every day is that if there is a sector of the economy that is to be devoid of politics, it is the education sector, because education remains the future of this country. As these youngsters do not have much knowledge and interest in politics, this is the right time we’re supposed to instill the fear of God in them and also give them rigorous training in education so that they can become responsible citizens tomorrow and help make the Free SHS policy productive,” he explained.
He revealed that, through the collaborative effort of all stakeholders involved, the Free Senior High School Policy has given opportunity to over 2.5 million students and advised that all should support the policy so that it can fulfil its mandate of establishment.
He made this call on Saturday, July 13, 2024, during the joint graduation ceremony of the Onua Francis International School and Young Executive School in Kasoa, in the Central Region.
He further stated that the government is filled with joy whenever they see the private sector thrive, because great nations cannot be made without the private sector.
In the same programme, the Director of the two schools, Dr. Francis Essel-Okyeahene, advised the graduates to be strong and courageous even as they are leaving junior high school to enter senior high school and would want to take leadership mantles in the future.
He said if they can take leadership mantles in the future, they will have to be organised and not do their things haphazardly in life.
Dr. Essel-Okyeahene said that they will be missing the children who lived with them as family until they complete their BECE exams before graduation.
According to him, the Young Executive School presented a student population of about 166 for graduating, while Onua Francis International School also presented 70 students, making over 236 students who graduated from the school.
