Four (4) persons have so far been apprehended by the Ghana Police Service in connection with the bullion van robbery at Ablekuma.
The incident, which also resulted in the killing of a policeman, re-ignited discussions about the inappropriate use of general-purpose vans for carrying cash instead of fit-for-purpose bullion vans.
In a statement on Sunday, July 16, the Police noted that the four suspects are in custody and assisting with investigations.

Four people of interest have so far been arrested in connection with the Ablekuma bullion van robbery, including one of the suspects who was arrested yesterday.
Eyewitnesses narrated that the robbery, which happened at the premises of Star Oil Ablekuma (“Fanmilk”) on Thursday, June 22, lasted for about 3 minutes.
The witnesses claimed that four armed guys riding motorcycles stormed the station as soon as the cash-carrying vehicle with the license plate (GT 1254-10) stopped over at the filling station.
One of the robbers forcibly opened the door where the policeman was and opened fire on him.
According to a statement from Star Oil Company following the incident, the van was there to collect money from the station for banking.
The driver of the van reportedly escaped unharmed.
Following the incident, The Ghana Police Service issued a statement on the incident, assuring the public that they would arrest the perpetrators of the crime.
