The Adentan Municipal Assembly has engaged residents and other stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen accountability, explain its functions and gather community input on development priorities.
The engagement formed part of a two-day town hall meeting held in the municipality on Thursday, September 24, 2026, where residents had the opportunity to raise concerns and seek information about the Assembly’s activities.
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Adentan, Ella Esinam Nongo, said the engagement was intended partly to bridge an information gap between the Assembly and residents who live in the municipality but may not fully understand its mandate.
She said the Assembly also used the meeting to explain how internally generated revenue, including property rates and business operating permits, was being applied to development.
“We met them to introduce the Assembly to them because we realised that most of them live in Adentan but they don’t know the functions and the happenings of the Assembly.”
According to the MCE, the third objective was to create an avenue for residents to contribute ideas and identify areas requiring attention.
She said the Assembly was interested in using residents’ inputs to improve development outcomes across the municipality.
“The third reason why we met our stakeholders was to make sure that we take their inputs, their ideas, their contributions to enhance the municipality.”
The engagement comes amid ongoing development interventions by the Assembly in education and healthcare. The Assembly recently commissioned four projects, including classroom blocks at Otano Presbyterian School, Ashiyie Community Basic School and Adentan Community School Complex, as well as a maternity block and staff accommodation at the Amrahia Health Centre.
However, roads emerged as the dominant concern raised by residents during the town hall meeting.
Ms. Nongo said the Assembly was aware of the concerns and was using its District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment to undertake grading and reshaping works while prioritising roads across the municipality.
“Their major problem is our roads. So we’ve assured them that we know and feel their pain.”
She said all 12 Assembly members had been tasked to identify priority roads in their respective electoral areas to facilitate the rotation of the equipment.
Member of Parliament for Adentan, Mohammed Adamu Ramadan, said the town hall provided an important platform for residents to directly engage the Assembly and raise concerns about development.
He identified roads, drainage and sanitation, and security as the municipality’s major challenges.
“Anybody who knows Adentan very well knows that our three major challenges, maybe in order of preference, would be our roads first, and then the issue of drains and sanitation. And security.”
Hon. Ramadan said the engagement was particularly important because local development required cooperation between residents, the Assembly and central government.
