Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has announced her intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the constituency, reversing an earlier decision to pursue opportunities beyond the area.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 22, 2026, the former legislator said she had reconsidered her earlier position following consultations with party leaders and executives, reaffirming her commitment to serving the constituency.
“After considerable reflection, extensive consultation and broad based engagement with party leadership and executives,” she said, she had decided to present herself for consideration as the party’s parliamentary candidate when the timetable and guidelines for the primaries are announced.
Hon. Safo explained that her decision was driven by her longstanding relationship with the constituency and her conviction that she still had more to contribute to its development.
“Earlier, I had indicated my intention to pursue opportunities beyond the constituency. However, upon deeper reflection, I have come to appreciate, that, there is no greater honour or responsibility than serving and representing the interests and aspirations of the over two hundred thousand constituents of our beloved constituency in parliament,” she stated.
Her announcement sets the stage for a potential contest for the NPP parliamentary candidacy in Dome-Kwabenya ahead of the next general election.
Hon. Safo, who represented the constituency in Parliament for 12 years, said Dome-Kwabenya continued to face significant developmental challenges despite progress made during her tenure.
“While much remains to be done, I remain committed to building on the progress we made together and work tirelessly towards a better future for Dome-Kwabenya,” she said.
She also cited the constituency’s electoral performance under her leadership as evidence of the collective efforts of party members and supporters.
According to her, the NPP secured 63,373 votes in the constituency in the 2012 general election, increasing its tally to 65,488 in 2016 and 75,041 in 2020.
Hon. Safo attributed the figures to the dedication of party members, supporters and constituents rather than her individual efforts.
“These achievements are not mine alone. They reflect the dedication, sacrifice and commitment of every party member, supporter and constituent who believed in our shared vision for Dome-Kwabenya,” she said.
She further called for unity within the NPP, arguing that the party’s strength depended on its ability to work together in pursuit of common goals.
“I firmly believe, that the strength of our party lies in our unity, our shared values, and our collective willingness to work together in pursuit of our common purpose,” she stated.
Hon. Safo also invited party members, stakeholders and residents to engage with her on the future of the constituency and the leadership needed to advance its development.
“Dome-Kwabenya is home. It has always been home. My commitment to its people remains unwavering, and my resolve to serve remains steadfast,” she added.
Her declaration comes ahead of the NPP’s parliamentary primaries, the timetable and guidelines for which she said were yet to be announced.
