The University of Ghana has directed undergraduate students whose cumulative grade point averages (CGPAs) fall below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes, citing the university’s academic progression regulations.

In a notice issued by the Academic Affairs Directorate, the university said the directive was in accordance with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which sets out the requirements for students to progress to the next academic level.

The regulation requires students to obtain a CGPA of at least 1.00 and satisfy the relevant school or departmental requirements to progress.

“To progress to the next level, a student must obtain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.00 or better and satisfy School/Departmental requirements. There is no probation,” the notice stated.

The university explained that students whose CGPAs remain below the minimum threshold after all grades for their registered courses have been released would not be considered to be in good academic standing and would therefore be required to withdraw.

Affected students have been advised to check their CGPAs through the university’s Management Information System (MIS) Web and initiate the withdrawal process through the Student Services (STS) Portal.

According to the notice, students are required to log in to the portal at sts.ug.edu.gh/services using their student identification numbers and PINs, then select the “Withdrawal Request” option to begin the process.

The university, however, noted that the withdrawal process may differ for some programmes.

“For certain programmes, the relevant School or Department will initiate the withdrawal on behalf of affected students,” it said.

Students who require further clarification have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices.

The university also indicated that its Careers and Counselling Directorate remains available to provide support and guidance to students affected by the directive.
