Adwoa Safo rejects funeral cancellation claims, insists event will proceed on July 30

Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo has dismissed claims that the funeral of her late father, Apostle Professor Emeritus Kwadwo Safo, has been cancelled, insisting that the burial and subsequent funeral rites will proceed as scheduled.

Speaking in an interview with Angel FM, Madam Safo outlined a three-part funeral programme, saying the family would begin with the burial at Gomoa Mpota on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

She said the funeral service would follow at the Independence Square in Accra on Friday, July 31, before the family travels to Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region for a thanksgiving service on Saturday, August 8.

“On the 30th of July, we will go to Gomoa Mpota to bury my late father. On the 31st of July, we will be at Independence Square to hold the funeral service. Then, on the 8th of August, we will travel to Asante Mampong in Kumasi for the thanksgiving service. So everyone should disregard the rumours that the funeral will not take place or that it has been cancelled,” she said.

Her comments come shortly after Nana Kojo Safo Akofena, Head of the Kantanka Family and Leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana, announced that the July 30 burial would not take place.

Nana Akofena said disagreements over the implementation of Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s final wishes had forced the Kantanka Family to seek legal intervention.

He also said lawyers for the family had been instructed to initiate proceedings to address issues arising from the late Apostle’s will.

Madam Safo’s latest comments therefore set the stage for further uncertainty over the funeral arrangements, with the two positions appearing to differ sharply on whether the burial will proceed as planned.

The late Apostle Kwadwo Safo, founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and renowned industrialist, died after a life associated with religious ministry, innovation and industrial development in Ghana.
