Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah left his role on the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) because of his demanding official schedule, his aide, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, has explained.
Mr Schandorf, who is also the Media Relations Officer at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, said reports that Mr Buah resigned from the GoldBod Board over disagreements or dissatisfaction with the institution were false.
According to him, the minister requested in January 2026 that the Ministry’s Chief Director, Innocent Marcus Haligah, represent him on the GoldBod Board due to his workload.
At the time, Mr Buah was responsible for the Lands and Natural Resources portfolio while also serving as Acting Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
“The Minister only requested in January that the Ministry’s Chief Director represent him on the Board due to his demanding schedule,” Mr Schandorf said in a social media post on Monday, September 29.
He said the change in representation should therefore not be interpreted as a resignation arising from disagreements between the minister and GoldBod.
Mr Schandorf further said the relationship between the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and GoldBod remained strong, with both institutions continuing to work together on issues affecting Ghana’s mining and extractive industries.
He said the collaboration particularly included efforts to combat illegal mining and advance the country’s mining sector.
“As indicated in the ministry’s official statement this morning, the relationship between the Lands Ministry and GoldBod remains strong, with both institutions working closely to combat illegal mining and advance Ghana’s mining and extractive industry,” he said.
The clarification follows reports suggesting that Mr Buah had resigned from the GoldBod Board because of disagreements or dissatisfaction with the institution.
Mr Schandorf urged the public to disregard such reports, maintaining that the minister’s change in board representation was necessitated by his official responsibilities and demanding schedule.
