Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections, has urged party members to treat the remaining three years to the polls as a narrow window for rebuilding support and addressing internal challenges.
Speaking on Monday, February 2, during a visit by party members who came to congratulate him on his election as flagbearer, Dr Bawumia said sustained collaboration would be central to the party’s electoral recovery.
“We need to work closely because if we don’t, there are many things that I will not know about. So we need to continue meeting and work together,” he told the gathering.
He stressed that delays in tackling constituency-level concerns could prove costly, dismissing suggestions that the party had ample time to prepare.
“People think three years is long, but it isn’t. The earlier we start, the better it will be for us to deal with the problems that we see,” he said.
According to Dr Bawumia, postponing engagement until the election year would limit the party’s ability to correct course and reconnect with voters.
“But if we wait until 2028, it will be too late, but now we can solve a lot of problems,” he noted.
He urged party operatives to prioritise voter engagement and targeted outreach, particularly in constituencies the NPP aims to reclaim in the next elections.
“We can talk to people, we can bring them on board, and we can target people in the constituencies that we need to speak to if we are to win the seat back,” Dr Bawumia said.
