The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 general elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, paid a significant visit to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) Headquarters on Sunday afternoon, where he met with embattled Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Dr. Bawumia was accompanied by a high-powered delegation comprising Hon. Nana Akomea, Hon. Opare Ansah, and Chairman Wontumi’s brother. The visit lasted approximately 30 minutes, during which the team engaged Chairman Wontumi in a private conversation.
The visit has drawn public attention, coming at a time when Chairman Wontumi is in EOCO custody over yet-to-be-disclosed issues believed to be related to financial investigations.
The nature of the discussions held during the visit remains undisclosed, but sources close to the delegation indicate it was to show solidarity, provide moral support and arrange for his bail.
Krobea Kwabena Asante, a close aide to Dr. Bawumia, confirmed the visit in a Facebook post, adding that Chairman Wontumi is likely to be released on bail by Monday, June 2, if all bail conditions are satisfied.
