Blogger Samuel Amadotor of Dklassgh.net has been arrested for allegedly publishing false information about the former Board Chair of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Okatakye Boakye Danquah Ababio II.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), in a statement issued on Thursday, November 20, confirmed that Amadotor was picked up with support from the National Signals Bureau (NSB) following a complaint filed by Mr Ababio.

According to the police, Amadotor admitted during interrogation that he was contracted by one Chairman Michael Yeboah to publish the false content.

He was subsequently charged with two offences:

  • publication of false news with intent to cause fear and panic, contrary to Section 208(1) of the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29), and

  • publication of false news under Section 123 of the Electronic Transactions Act (Act 772)

He has since been granted bail.

When he was arraigned, the charges were read by the presiding judge, Her Ladyship Evelyn Asamoah, and Amadotor pleaded not guilty to both counts.

After hearing arguments from the prosecution and defence teams, the court granted him bail in the amount of GH¢50,000 with two sureties. The ruling did not outline the specific grounds for granting bail.

His lawyer, Jerry Avenorgbo, expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision after the proceedings.

The case is scheduled to continue as the trial progresses following Amadotor’s release on bail.
