The District Chief Executive Officer for Bosome Freho in Konongo in the Ashanti Region, Yaw Danso, has been asked by President Akufo-Addo to step aside pending an enquiry into his alleged involvement in illegal mining.
In a statement signed by the Minister for Local Government, Dan Botwe, Mr. Danso was indicted for encouraging illegal mining following leaked audio or voice recordings of him on social media.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, “would allow investigations to be carried out by the appropriate agencies to verify the authenticity of the alleged audio recording,”the statement was revealed.
The government has relaunched Operation Halt II in a bid to launch renewed efforts in the fight against illegal mining activities.
In this new operation, the granting of mining licences by the Minerals Commission and other relevant bodies will now involve the input of chiefs, regional ministers, and metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executives (MMDCEs).
