The president’s only daughter published a video on social media on Thursday appealing to voters not to cast their ballots for her father in the upcoming presidential election.
Paul Biya, the incumbent president of Cameroon, might not have imagined his campaign for a seventh term taking such a turn. The reason? His only daughter, Brenda Biya, used her TikTok account on Thursday to urge Cameroonians not to vote for him.
In the video, which the 27-year-old recorded in Switzerland, Brenda Biya said she would “cut” all contact with her parents, alleging that her family had mistreated her.
She then shifted to politics, declaring that she would not “vote for Paul Biya” and that she “sincerely hoped there would be another president.”
Brenda Biya has previously sparked controversy with other videos, including clips of her dancing suggestively, as well as publicly announcing her homosexuality—a sexual orientation that remains deeply frowned upon in Cameroon.
