Chef Abdul-Razak Failatu has announced she will be stepping out of her kitchen at 10 a.m. on Wednesday after 10 days of record-breaking cooking feats.
This was announced by her team in an interview with the press on Tuesday.
According to Faila’s husband, Lt. Reginald Ofosuhene Adjei, even though Faila is physically fit to continue, they can’t afford to put her health at risk.
Faila, who began her campaign at midnight on January 1, 2024, initially planned on ending on January 5, 2024, equivalent to some 120 hours of cooking.
However, her team decided to extend this by 5 more days after hearing about fresh attempts by Uganda’s Mama Dee and Nigeria’s Tope Maggie, who have cooked for 144 hours and 200 hours, respectively, although these challenges are yet to be endorsed by Guinness World Records.
The current record holder of the longest cooking hours is Irish chef Alan Fisher, who cooked for 119 hours and 57 minutes.
Faila’s cooking run has been applauded by many, praising her energy levels, confidence, and inviting culinary skills despite days of sleeplessness.
She has also received enormous support from Ghanaians across the country, some of whom have travelled from other regions.
Several dignitaries, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief of Staff Frema Osei-Opare, and former First Lady Lordina Mahama, have visited Chef Faila at the Modern City Hotel in Tamala to support her.
“What Faila is also doing here is showing that it is possible to break the world record, and we are here to support her so that she does it, and we are all going to be very happy when she does it,” Dr. Bawumia, who had earlier donated GHC 30,000, said.
Popular figures in arts and entertainment, football, and politics have also visited the now-christened Executive Chef.
