Entrepreneur and former chairman of the Local Organising Committee for CAN 2008, Dr. Kofi Amoah, has dispelled perceptions that he is clamoring for a coup de tat.

Dr. Amoah, popularly known as Citizen Kofi, has been critical of the Akufo-Addo administration over corruption and bad governance.

In one of his posts on Twitter, he made reference to the recent coup in Niger as a consequence of economic mismanagement and a lack of accountability.

“The Minister of Finance in Niger Republic has been given 48 hours by the Coup plotters to account for all the monies stolen from the people or face death by firing squad. Africa is AWAKENING”

However, Dr. Amoah’s tweet was met with criticism by some social media users who maintained that coups de tats have historically hindered any meaningful development.

Did you just say africa is awakening? Lol
You are supposed to know better sir. How is this going to solve their problems. If the have evidence against him, what is the use of their courts? How many African countries have been transformed by coup? I’m so disappointed in you sir

Errrrrrrrr that man is not Niger’s finance minister, Sir. The video is from 2021.

Africa is awakening to what exactly? Coups are not the answer to any problem. It’s backward and unprogressive. https://t.co/WN7Hs9Rh2j

Responding to the backlash, Dr. Amoah stated that he was only calling for accountability and not urging a coup.

“Just to be clear, I’m NOT calling for a coup in Ghana, But I think we need ACCOUNTABILITY, period.”

The football administrator has argued that the ruling administration, of which he is a member, has performed abysmally and has to be removed from office.

But critics say Dr. Amoah is only doing the bidding of presidential aspirant of the NPP, Alan Kyerematen, against Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also vying for the Flagbearership slot of the Party.
