EC rejects parliamentary results from 9 disputed constituencies

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced its decision not to uphold the parliamentary election results declared in nine constituencies following the December 7, 2024, general elections.

The affected constituencies are Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, Dome-Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South.

Speaking at a news conference at the Commission’s headquarters in Accra today, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa explained that the collation of results in these constituencies was disrupted by supporters of some political parties, rendering the process incomplete.

“In the view of the Commission, upholding such unlawful collations and declarations will set a bad precedent for our country and set us back to the dark days,” Mrs. Mensa said.

She further stressed that allowing individuals to use force to take over the collation process and declare themselves winners would undermine Ghana’s democratic principles.

The EC Chairperson called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President-elect John Dramani Mahama, and the National Election Security Task Force to ensure that the Commission is provided with adequate security to carry out its mandate effectively.

“We call on the National Election Security Task Force to work together to put in place arrangements to ensure that our staff and our processes are protected and secured,” she added.
