The Interior Ministry has announced Thursday, April 11, 2024, as a public holiday in observance of Eid-ul-Fitr, a major holy occasion that Muslims around the world celebrate.
This was contained in a release on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, signed by Interior Minister Henry Quartey, which confirmed the official holiday and encouraged Ghanaians to recognise it as such across the nation.
Muslims around the world celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, a significant religious holiday, to commemorate the conclusion of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm).
The celebration signifies the end of the 30-day Ramadan fast, which began at sundown and continued until dusk.
The precise day of celebration varies since the start of each lunar Hijri month is determined by the local religious authorities based on their observation of a new moon.
