The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced a major upgrade to Ghana’s natural gas supply infrastructure, with Italian oil and gas giant ENI set to increase its supply by 30 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) effective Sunday, July 13, 2025.
The enhancement will bring ENI’s total daily supply to 270 MMscfd, a move the Ministry describes as a “strategic upgrade” aimed at strengthening Ghana’s energy infrastructure and ensuring long-term energy reliability.
In a press release dated July 9, the Ministry disclosed that the temporary suspension of ENI’s gas export operations is necessary to facilitate the upgrade. The suspension, while essential for optimizing the gas supply chain, may lead to temporary reductions in gas availability for power generation.
“The Ministry, in collaboration with key stakeholders in the power sector, has proactively implemented comprehensive measures to mitigate any potential disruptions,” the statement read.
These measures include enhanced monitoring of power generation and the activation of contingency plans to maintain a stable power supply during the transition period.
The Ministry assured the public of its commitment to a stable and sustainable energy future, urging citizens and stakeholders to cooperate and remain understanding as the enhancement is rolled out.
