The YAFO Institute has released its 2023 Annual Report, which highlights the think tank’s efforts to advance civil liberty, free enterprise, and prosperity in Ghana.
In a statement announcing the release of the report on Monday, January 15, 2024, YAFO praised its team and key stakeholders for their marvellous work in the year under review, undertaking policy actions for change in Ghana.
Dubbed “Fighting for Freedom in Ghana,” the report details a dynamic year of development and production, research, and events of the highest calibre in the light of the battle of ideas within the policy space of Ghana.
According to the President of the Institute, Nathaniel Kwadwo Dwamena, the annual report signifies the organisation’s determination to make individuals realise their freedom and defend it, and it outlines the progress made, barriers overcome, and prospects ahead.
“The report is a record of our progress, the hurdles we’ve conquered, and the work that still has to be done. It’s an appeal for solidarity, a reminder that we must never give up fighting for the liberties that make us human,” Mr. Dwamena said.
The Institute highlighted the impact its work has had on key public policy issues, including the fight against illegal mining, also known as “galamsey,” tax cuts, the reduction of the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy, and the withdrawal of the import restrictions bill, among others.
“The report shows its [YAFO’s] impact through a series of policy conversations that center on addressing the galamsey, cutting taxes, leading with a perspective supported by research-backed evidence, and analyzing and examining vehicle insurance.”
“Through creative public policy advocacy, we have significantly contributed to lowering the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy), enabled businesses to offer market-responsive vehicle insurance, decreased police harassment regarding auto insurance, shifted media discourse to address galamsey using a scientific approach, advanced youth-focused emerging technology opportunities, and successfully pushed Ghana to remove the import restriction bill,” the statement revealed.
