Today, June 22, 2022, the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori Atta, is scheduled to appear in front of the legislature and respond to 16 inquiries from various lawmakers.
The questions which will be posed by members of both sides will centre on areas including employment, taxes on petroleum products, debt management and infrastructure.
There are also lots of expectations by several interest parties, including civil society, as he will be presenting details on COVID-19 related receipts and expenditures.
The Finance Minister has been censured, especially by the minority side, for not honouring invitations to speak to the country’s present economic woes and to account for funds received from both local and international sources during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On June 16, 2022, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon Alban S. K. Bagbin, directed the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, to appear before Parliament on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, to answer some 16 urgent questions tabled by members of the house.
This call came as the latest to the Minister.
The Speaker also announced that he had placed an embargo on all Finance Ministry businesses until the minister appeared before them.
