President John Dramani Mahama has submitted his first set of ministerial nominations to the Speaker of Parliament for vetting and approval.
The nominations, made in accordance with Article 78 of the 1992 Constitution, include appointments to key portfolios in finance, energy, and justice.
The nominations come in the wake of a power crisis warning issued on Tuesday by John Jinapor, who highlighted critically low fuel levels inherited from the previous administration.
In response, President Mahama promptly assembled a team to address the situation.
Below are the ministerial nominees and their profiles:
Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson – Minister for Finance Designate
Dr. Forson, a seasoned economist, chartered accountant, and tax practitioner, has been nominated to lead the Finance Ministry. With extensive expertise in public finance, fiscal policy, and macroeconomics, he is expected to drive Ghana’s economic recovery and stability.
A five-term Member of Parliament, Dr. Forson holds a PhD in Finance from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He also earned Master of Science degrees in Taxation and Economics from the University of Oxford and KNUST, respectively, and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from London South Bank University.
Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor – Minister for Energy Designate
Hon. Jinapor, a seasoned energy economist with extensive experience in energy finance and management, is expected to lead the transformation of Ghana’s energy sector. His nomination signals the administration’s intent to address energy challenges and promote sustainable solutions.
Jinapor holds a Master of Arts in Economic Policy Management and an MBA in Marketing, both from the University of Ghana. He also has a Master of Science in Development Finance from the University of Ghana, a Master of Science in Energy Economics from GIMPA, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Finance and Financial Law from the University of London.
Hon. Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine – Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Designate
Dr. Ayine, a respected legal expert with three decades of experience, has been nominated to head the Ministry of Justice. Known for his legal acumen and dedication to justice, Dr. Ayine previously served as Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice.
He holds a PhD in Law from Stanford University, an LLM from the University of Michigan Law School, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ghana. A former lecturer at the University of Ghana Law School, Dr. Ayine is also the founding partner of Ayine & Partners Law Offices.
The nominations, announced by Acting Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, have been submitted to Parliament for consideration and approval.
