The Ghana Education Service has condemned a video circulating on social media on July 24, 2023, of a student at Adisadel College bullying another student in a dormitory.

During the 30-second unsettling video, the alleged bully is seen choking another boy from behind. The bully then knocks the victim’s boy’s head on a bunk bed’s edge with such force that voices off camera beg him to release his grip owing to the obvious harm caused.

This leaves the victim with significant swelling on his face after being freed.

But in a statement on July 24, 2022, GES strongly condemned the “barbaric” act committed by the individuals involved while commending school heads for their prompt intervention.

“We commend the school authorities for promptly suspending the alleged perpetrator pending further investigation,” the statement revealed.

The Service also instructed the Regional Director of Education to liaise with both the school authorities and relevant law enforcement agencies to ascertain the truth behind the incident and implement appropriate measures in accordance with the law.

In a related event, management of the school has suspended Ekow Holman, the master of Quaque House, where the incident took place.

“I regret to inform you that you have been relieved from your position as Quaque Housemaster with immediate effect. You may be reinstated as housemaster based on the outcome of the investigation,” a letter from the Headmaster of the school to the Housemaster noted.

Meanwhile, the incident has revived concerns among parents about the wellbeing of their wards in boarding schools.
