President John Dramani Mahama has declared that Ghana’s economic recovery is firmly underway, telling Parliament that his administration’s “Resetting Ghana” agenda is delivering some of the most remarkable outcomes seen in decades.
Addressing the House during the 2026 State of the Nation Address on Friday, February 27, the President said his government has made decisive progress in restoring stability and credibility to the economy after a turbulent period.
“I promised then that just as I have confronted and overcome crises in the past, I would reset our economy and return us to a path of growth, progress and development,” he stated.
He reminded Members of Parliament that tough decisions were always going to be necessary.
“Mr Speaker, I told this August House when I appeared before you last year that we would have to take tough, prudent and necessary decisions to restore stability and credibility. Today, I can say with confidence: Ghana is back. Ghana is working again. And Ghana is open for business.”
President Mahama said the government deliberately chose fiscal discipline and structural reforms over short-term political convenience.
“From the outset, we resolved to choose discipline over waste, reform over excuses, and stability over speculation,” he said.
According to him, the administration’s immediate priority upon assuming office was to stop fiscal slippages and stabilise public finances.
“As a responsible government, our first order of business was to halt the economic haemorrhage and restore order to our public finances,” he stressed.
He noted that improving macroeconomic fundamentals, including greater stability and renewed investor confidence, have positioned the country for sustained acceleration.
“The fundamentals are improving, and the path to sustained acceleration is very clear to everyone,” he added.
