On July 17, 2024, the Ghana Police Service opened an ultra-modern Ghana Police Shop at its Headquarters in Accra.

Speaking at the opening, the Vice President, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, said it was an honour for him to join the rest of the team to commission such a historic edifice.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, noted that the security of Ghana has been and will continue to be a high priority for the government.

He emphasised the importance of security in the development of all countries, particularly Ghana, which has maintained peace and stability under the presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“As we are all aware, every nation can develop only when there is proper security. Under the leadership of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, this country has remained peaceful and stable despite the challenges within the subregion,” he stated.

He said Ghana is currently experiencing peace due to the diligent efforts of the Ghanaian police and other security agencies, which sometimes face life-threatening situations.

“Our gallant officers, men and women, of the police service, working in collaboration with the other security agencies on a daily basis, put their lives on the line to ensure that our streets, communities, and roads are safe and individuals and groups can undertake their socioeconomic activities without any fear of crime,” the Vice President said.

He also gave them a thumbs up for the good work they do each and every day, adding that they can always count on the government’s support to help them do more for this country.

Dr. Bawumia added that over the past years, the government has provided logistical support to the police service, enhancing their operational efficacy. He additionally assured them that they could always rely on the government for further assistance.

“Over the past seven years, the government has consistently provided the needed logistical support to the police to help you work more efficiently. Vehicles have been provided with hundreds of thousands of pieces of motorcycle protective equipment, among several other logistical supports that have been extended to this service. This has been evidenced in the increased police visibility in our communities and the improved response to crimes and other law and order situations,” he furthered.

The Vice President also disclosed that in the last seven years, the service has received clearance from the government to recruit more workers into the service.

The Ghana Police Shop, situated at the Police Headquarters behind the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) building, houses and sells everything police, from uniforms to caps to shoes and souvenirs.
