The Ministry of Health has announced a breakthrough in negotiations to pay outstanding salary arrears to thousands of nurses and midwives across the country.
Following extensive deliberations with the Ministry of Finance, the government has finalized a structured payment plan for healthcare professionals posted during the 2024/2025 recruitment cycle.
The arrears, which have been a point of contention, will be settled in four installments starting in April 2026 and concluding in July.
Under the approved schedule, personnel will receive two months’ worth of arrears in April, followed by three-month payments in May, June, and July respectively.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Health, officials emphasized that the staggered approach was designed to ensure fiscal stability while meeting their obligations to the workforce.
“This structured payment arrangement underscores Government’s firm commitment to clearing all outstanding obligations in a timely, responsible, and sustainable manner,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry also extended its gratitude to the nursing and midwifery community for their “patience, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to service delivery despite the delays experienced.”
