In a move to honor the Muslim community and ensure a nationwide celebration of Eid-Ul-Fitr, President John Dramani Mahama has declared Monday, March 31, 2025, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as additional public holidays.
This decision follows the statutory holiday on Sunday, March 30, 2025, which marks Eid-Ul-Fitr, the festival that signifies the end of Ramadan.
A statement issued by the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, announced that the holidays were declared by Executive Instrument (E.I.) in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601).
This decision aligns with President Mahama’s pledge to the Muslim community before the 2024 elections to ensure greater recognition of their religious festivities in the national calendar.
The move has been welcomed by some within the Muslim community, including the Coalition of Muslim Organisations in Ghana (COMOG) who see it as a significant step toward inclusivity and religious harmony in the country.
The government has urged all citizens to observe the holidays peacefully and in the spirit of national unity.
