The Ministry of Energy has rescinded the appointment of Mr John Ayiku Ocansey as the Acting Deputy Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

In a letter dated March 18, 2025, addressed to the acting managing director of ECG, the ministry stated:

“We refer to our letter with Ref. No. Z.A.6/247/01 dated 17th March 2025 introducing Mr. John Ayiku Ocansey as the new Acting Deputy Managing Director of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). We wish to inform you that our earlier letter was inadvertently written and hereby wish to withdraw same.”

This development follows the ministry’s initial communication on March 17, 2025, appointing Mr Ocansey to the position. The withdrawal indicates that the earlier appointment was made in error. The ministry has not provided further details regarding the reasons behind the inadvertent appointment or potential candidates for the role.

The Electricity Company of Ghana has experienced several leadership changes in recent times. In February 2025, Mr David Asamoah was appointed as the acting managing director of ECG, succeeding Mr Kwame Agyeman-Budu, who retired after his tenure.

These frequent changes in leadership have sparked discussions about the stability and direction of the company’s management.
