The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has commended Parliament for passing the much-discussed Human Sexual Rights and Family Values bill last Thursday.
In a statement, the GPCC praised the private sponsors of the bill and the Coalition of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values for their persistence in seeing the bill through.
“They have supported the passage of this bill through the arduous journey spanning almost three (3) years amid varied positions on the content of the bill by various interest groups. The deliberations and contributions from Members of Parliament (MPs), which in diverse ways enriched the content of the bill, are highly appreciated,” a portion of the statement read.
While thanking the office of the Attorney General for their “objective critique,” the Council hailed the special efforts of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, “who from the very onset expressed his commitment to ensuring the passage of the bill.”
The GPCC, however, urged the timely assent of the bill by President Nana Akufo-Addo, as they are of the view that this is the earnest expectation of the majority of Ghanaians.
“The GPCC takes this opportunity to kindly request that the President of the Republic give assent to this bill to bring finality to this advocacy, which seeks to uphold our longstanding religious and cultural value system. This is the earnest expectation of most Ghanaians.
