The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) have formally requested a review of public transport fares.
In a joint press release dated September 3, 2026, the two transport bodies said the request had been submitted to the Ministry of Transport in accordance with the applicable Administrative Instrument.
“The Union has submitted a request to the Ministry of Transport for a review of public transport fares, in line with the Administrative Instrument,” the statement said.
According to the groups, the request forms part of the established consultative framework for determining and reviewing public transport fares.
They said the process takes into consideration “various inputs that go into the operations of commercial road transport services.”
The GPRTU and GRTCC said discussions with the Ministry of Transport are expected to begin soon, after which the outcome of the consultations will be communicated to the public.
“We wish to assure the general public that engagement will soon commence with the Ministry of Transport and the outcome will be communicated in due course,” they said.
The transport operators have consequently urged drivers, station masters, transport owners and passengers to remain calm while awaiting the outcome of the review process.
“We therefore urge all drivers, station masters, transport owners, and the general public to remain calm and await the outcome of the process,” the statement added.
