The Accra High Court has issued a warrant authorising the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation.
The order, issued on September 30, 2026, also authorises EOCO to search for and seize documents considered relevant to the investigation.
The investigation follows a complaint concerning alleged unauthorised financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.
According to Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai, the investigation relates to suspected offences including financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering.
EOCO told the court that it had exhausted reasonable means of securing the MP’s voluntary attendance, noting that he had failed to honour invitations for questioning dating back to February 2026.
The office also expressed concerns that documents relevant to the investigation could be concealed, altered or destroyed, forming part of the basis for its application for the warrants.
However, Baffour Awuah has disputed the characterisation of the matter, explaining that his former law firm was engaged by SIC Life Savings and Loans to recover about GH¢3.5 million invested with Equity Savings and Loans.
According to him, the investment eventually increased to about GH¢14 million with accrued interest before a negotiated settlement was reached.
The High Court, while granting the arrest warrant, directed EOCO to execute the order through the Speaker of Parliament in accordance with parliamentary privileges.
The latest development follows an earlier attempt by EOCO officials to arrest the MP on September 23, 2026, at the premises of an Accra High Court.
That incident reportedly resulted in a pursuit before the lawmaker sought refuge in Parliament.
The issuance of the warrant marks a further escalation of the investigation, with EOCO now authorised by the court to take steps to secure Baffour Awuah’s attendance and obtain documents it considers relevant to the case.
The allegations against the MP remain subject to investigation and due process
