Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson on Tuesday officially welcomed a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to begin the Fifth Review of Ghana’s IMF-supported programme. The team is led by Dr Ruben Atoyan, mission chief for Ghana.
In his remarks, Dr Forson reflected on the country’s economic journey so far in 2025, noting that Ghana entered the year with “significant challenges” but has since recorded “notable progress” through firm measures and collective effort.
“While some risks remain, the government is fully committed to addressing them decisively,” the minister said. He added that the review will serve as a key opportunity for Ghana to assess progress under the programme and receive valuable feedback from the IMF.
Dr Atoyan, for his part, said the IMF team looks forward to engaging with Ghanaian authorities in the days ahead as part of the review process.
Also present at the meeting were Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Johnson Asiama, First Deputy Governor Dr Zakari Mumuni, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem, Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance Patrick Nomo, and other senior officials from both the ministry and the central bank.
The Fifth Review will evaluate Ghana’s performance against agreed programme benchmarks, a process that will shape the disbursement of some additional $360m and provide guidance on sustaining economic stability.
