A middle-aged woman, popularly called Fulpoge, and a resident of Jirapa in the Upper West Region, is battling for her life after she was allegedly butchered by a young man, Dakurah Pius, who is said to be mentally ill.
The incident, according to sources, happened on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at about 10:30pm when the victim was attacked in her room at Mile 5, near Jirapa Senior High School.
In what appears to be a human hunting spree, another person, an aged woman who said she stays at Jirapa Zongo, an adjoining locality to Mile 5, became the second victim of attack when she was bitten and severely injured by the same suspect on the same day.
According to the first victim, who is a breastfeeding mother, the suspect barged into her room late on the night of Saturday June 18, 2022 and started inflicting cutlass wounds on her without any provocation.
She told The Sikaman Times that she was not the only occupant of the room but that the suspect attacked her alone, causing no harm to her children in the same room.
The other victim revealed that she was sleeping in her room at about 11:30 pm when the suspect forcibly opened her room, entered and attacked her. According to her, the suspect bit her lips and fingers, resulting in their injury.
The two victims were reportedly sent to the St. Joseph Hospital in Jirapa for treatment by the police and some neighbors.
Even though the family of the suspect confirmed to The Sikaman Times that the suspect was mentally ill, they stated that they could not confirm if their family member could be guilty of the act or not.
The family explained that they had not known him for such acts, hence their inability to tell if the suspect, who is currently on the run, was the one behind the alleged attacks.
Meanwhile, police in the Jirapa Municipality have said conscious efforts are being made to apprehend the suspect and thorough investigations are being launched to unravel the circumstances that led to the Saturday night attacks on the two victims.
The police have, however, urged residents to provide timely reports of such crimes for quicker intervention.
