John Boadu has been elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), while Justin Frimpong Kodua has retained his position as General Secretary following the party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.
The elections were held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, where more than 7,000 delegates gathered to elect national officers to lead the party.
Mr Boadu secured victory in a closely contested race against Boakye Agyarko and Paul Afoko, receiving 2,888 votes, according to the final declaration reported by ChannelOne TV. Mr Agyarko obtained 2,048 votes, while Mr Afoko polled 490.
Mr Boadu’s victory followed a last-minute alliance with fellow chairmanship candidate Sammy Crabbe, who withdrew from the contest to support his bid.
In the General Secretary race, Mr Kodua secured re-election with 4,486 votes, giving him another mandate to oversee the party’s organisational and administrative operations.
Speaking after his victory, Mr Boadu expressed confidence in his ability to bring former contenders together to advance the party’s reorganisation efforts.
He indicated his readiness to work with other candidates and stakeholders to strengthen the party and build a united front following the competitive election.
Mr Kodua also called on party members to unite behind the new leadership, stressing the importance of collective effort in rebuilding the NPP’s organisational strength.
He compared the party’s leadership to the five fingers of the human hand, emphasising that each must work together to achieve a common purpose.
The leadership changes come as the NPP seeks to reorganise its structures, strengthen its grassroots base and improve its electoral prospects following its loss of parliamentary seats.
The conference also saw delegates vote for seven other national executive positions as part of efforts to constitute the party’s national leadership for the next phase of its political activities.
