Aspiring flagbearers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have finalised their ballot positions for the upcoming presidential primaries, set to take place on January 31, 2026.
This important step occurred on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the party’s headquarters in Accra, where candidates drew lots to determine their placement on the ballot paper.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the former MP for Assin Central, secured the first position on the ballot, giving him a prime spot as the contest heats up. Dr Bryan Acheampong, who previously served as Minister for Agriculture, drew the second position, while Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President and a leading contender expected to command significant support, chose the third spot.
Rounding out the lineup are Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Minister of Education, and Kwabena Agyepong, the party’s ex-General Secretary, who took the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
The NPP’s presidential primary is crucial, as it will determine who will challenge for Ghana’s highest office in the upcoming general elections.
Pollsters, however, predict a two-way contest between Dr Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong.
