The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the tragic death of a 21-year-old Level 400 Biological Science student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), identified as Yabane Deladem Aku.
According to a police statement, the deceased was found unresponsive behind the university’s Central Laboratory in the early hours of February 27, 2025.
Medical personnel from the KNUST Hospital pronounced her dead at the scene before her body was transferred to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
“Police examination of the body revealed marks of violence,” the statement noted.
Following a crime scene investigation, the police arrested a suspect, Daniel Tuffour, who is currently in custody assisting with the investigation.
The Inspector-General of Police has personally engaged the victim’s family to express condolences and assure them that justice will be served, according to the statement.
He has also met with the university administration to explore ways to enhance security on campus.
The police have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
