The New Patriotic Party has acknowledged receipt of the letter from Alan Kyerematen announcing his decision to no longer contest as flagbearer.
In a statement on September 6, 2022, signed by its General Secretary, the party stated that it had also taken notice of the contents of Kyerematen’s letter.
Declaring his decision to withdraw from the flagbearer “with regret”, the NPP said that all reported issues of electoral infractions are being investigated by the Elections and Disciplinary Committees.
“It is worthy to note that both the Elections Committee and Disciplinary Committee have initiated comprehensive investigations into all reported incidents of violations and infractions that are alleged to have occurred at various voting centers during the super delegates elections, which were held on Saturday, August 26, 2023”, the statement said.
It added as follows: “We wish to reassure all stakeholders and the general public that reports of the aforementioned committees will be made readily available, and persons who may be found culpable of any wrongdoing will be held accountable.”
Mr. Kyerematen officially served notice of his withdrawal yesterday, confirming grapevine reports hours earlier.
He mentioned bias “in favour of one particular Aspirant”, (presumably, the Vice President) as the reason for pulling out.
“After having analysed the results of the said elections, it is absolutely clear to me that the events leading to, during, and after the elections, that the Special Delegates Conference was strategically and tactically skewed in favour of one particular Aspirant”, he said.
He added that “the level of intimidation of varying intensity, directly and indirectly unleashed on a significant number of Delegates at various Voting Centres, across the sixteen centres is unprecedented in the history of our Party.”
