The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has assured the citizenry that it will investigate the matter relating to the willing of portions of Achimota Forest lands by the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, aka Sir John, to some close relations.
In a statement on Monday, the Ministry said that it takes serious cognizance of the issues raised and will ensure that the interests of Ghanaians are protected at all times.
The statement said, however, that since the issue predates the tenure of their sector minister, they will request all the necessary documentation and launch an initial investigation into the matter to ascertain the veracity of the claims.
“Considering that the issues that form the basis of the allegations predate the tenure of the current Minister, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, MP, it is important that he is seized with the full facts to enable him to take appropriate action, if, indeed, there is any merit in the claims,” the statement said.
A leaked document purporting to be the will of the late former NPP General Secretary and former CEO of the Forestry Commission found its way onto social media on Sunday. Sections of the document spelt out three people to receive plots of land within the Achimota Forest.
