In the vibrant and inspiring event, Ladies Network for Economic Freedom (LANEF) proudly inaugurated its new Liberty Club at the Glory Preparatory School, Otumi-Asikam, in the Kwaebibirim District in the Eastern Region. The club aims to educate and empower junior high school (JHS) girls by focusing on three crucial pillars: liberty, entrepreneurship, and leadership. The inauguration ceremony featured three distinguished speakers who brought a wealth of knowledge and inspiration to the students.
The event commenced with a powerful address from Mr. Samuel Adu Ernest, the headmaster of Glory Preparatory School and community leader, who addressed the theme of leadership. He spoke about the qualities of a good leader and the importance of self-confidence and empathy. He shared his experiences of leading various communities and emphasised the role of young girls in shaping the future. “Leadership is not about a title; it’s about being a role model to others, and you all have the potential to be leaders in your communities,” he encouraged, urging the girls to step up and take initiative in their daily lives.
Following Mr. Samuel’s inspiring words, Mrs. Kate Bediako, a successful entrepreneur and business mentor, took the stage. She shared her entrepreneurial journey, filled with challenges and triumphs and discussed the importance of innovation and resilience. Mrs. Kate highlighted the significance of entrepreneurship as a tool for empowerment and economic independence. She encouraged the girls to explore their creative ideas and assured them that entrepreneurship is not limited by age. “You are never too young to start dreaming big and working towards your own ventures,” she said, motivating the students to think beyond traditional career paths.
The final speaker, Mrs. Angela Okai-Nartey, the executive director of LANEF, passionately spoke about the concept of liberty, emphasising the importance of understanding property rights and economic freedom. She encouraged the girls to think critically about their role in society and to recognise the power they hold to shape their own futures. “Liberty is not just a concept; it’s a practice. It begins with knowing your rights and ends with the courage to exercise them without harming others,” she stated, leaving a lasting impression on the young audience.
The inauguration ceremony concluded with the official launch of the Liberty Club. The school’s proprietor, Mr. Patrick Mensah, expressed his excitement about the club’s potential to foster a supportive environment for the students. “This club will provide a platform for our young girls to explore and develop their skills, preparing them for a bright future. We are committed to nurturing a generation of confident, independent, and empowered women,” Mr. Mensah said.
The event was well-received by the students, who expressed their eagerness to participate in the club’s activities. The Liberty Club plans to organise workshops, seminars, and mentorship programs, offering the girls opportunities to learn from successful women in various fields.
The inauguration of the Liberty Club, which took place on 31st July 2024 following a workshop with students, marks a significant milestone for Glory Preparatory School. By focusing on liberty, entrepreneurship, and leadership, the club aims to equip JHS girls with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the challenges of the future. The success of the event, marked by the powerful messages from the speakers and the enthusiastic response from the students, sets a positive tone for the club’s future endeavors. The school community looks forward to witnessing the growth and achievements of its young members as they embark on this empowering journey.
