The Member of Parliament for Madina, Hon. Francis Xavier Sosu, has inaugurated a new Chamber of Commerce to provide financial services, mentorship, and networking opportunities for traders and entrepreneurs in the constituency.
Speaking at the launch on Saturday, September 22, at the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hub in Madina, Hon. Sosu described the initiative as “a whole new chapter in the life of Madina Constituency”, noting that the area is one of Ghana’s busiest trading centres with its market ranked second largest in Greater Accra.
“Five years ago, I began the Madina Job Centre, which has since connected more than 10,000 young people to jobs,” he said.
“Today, we take a new turn with the Madina Chamber of Commerce because Madina is a hub of business activities. The many young businesses here need partnerships, connections, and platforms to leverage for growth,” he added.
The MP emphasised that the chamber would act as a vehicle to tackle funding gaps and skills deficiencies among small enterprises while positioning them to benefit from the government’s proposed “24-hour economy” policy.
“Africa is going to be the centre of business revolution in the next 50 years, and Madina must not be left out.”
Chief of Staff Hon. Julius Debrah, who launched the chamber, praised the initiative as timely and pledged his support with a seed capital donation of GH₵500,000.
He encouraged all existing and potential beneficiaries of the initiative not to despise their beginnings but to put in place the right structures, discipline, and long-term vision that would enable their businesses to grow sustainably and compete beyond Madina.
“God didn’t bless everyone with the talent to become a doctor or a lawyer, but he gave each of us unique gifts,” he told the gathering. “Some of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world were school dropouts who believed in their ideas. The most important thing is to start.”
Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams also lauded the choice of Madina as the hub for the project, describing the constituency as “the UN of Ghana” because of its diversity.
He stressed the importance of combining business with healthy lifestyles, citing a keep-fit exercise that preceded the launch.
“You can’t be a good businesspersonif you are spending all your time in the hospital,” he said. “Exercise sharpens your brain and faculties. That is why we walked here today before this launch to show that business development must go hand in hand with wellness.”
Other government officials and community leaders attended the event, which Hon. Sosu said symbolised “working for the future—for business, for connections, and for young people who want to build enterprises.”
