President John Dramani Mahama has suspended all official engagements for the rest of the week in response to the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals on Wednesday.
In a press statement issued by the Presidency, the government announced that a three-day national mourning period will begin tomorrow, Thursday, 7 August 2025, in honour of the victims. During this time, all national flags are to be flown at half-mast across the country until further notice.
The directive was communicated through the Chief of Staff, while the statement was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Spokesperson to the President, who also serves as Minister for Government Communications.
The move comes hours after confirmation that a Ghana Air Force Z9 helicopter carrying five high-profile civilians and three military crew members had crashed in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region, killing all on board.
The presidency described the incident as a national tragedy and said the mourning period would reflect the country’s deep sense of loss.
Further details regarding memorial arrangements are expected in the coming days.
