The Mayor of Nima, Mr. Abdul Fatahu Alhassan, has successfully hosted the second edition of the Zongo Heroes Awards and Fundraising Ceremony, celebrating individuals and organizations making impactful contributions to Zongo communities across Ghana.
The event, held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the National Central Mosque in Kanda, Accra, brought together community leaders, imams, youth groups, and dignitaries from across the country.
This year’s ceremony featured the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, as the Special Guest of Honour who received an honorary award for his tireless efforts in promoting peace, unity, and harmony among Ghana’s diverse religious and ethnic groups.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Alhassan expressed his gratitude to all attendees and explained the vision behind the initiative. “The Zongo Heroes Awards were created to recognize and inspire our brothers and sisters who are giving back to their communities through charity work.”
“We want to motivate them to continue doing more and also encourage others with the capacity to contribute to rise up and help their people,” he said.
He also extended appreciation to traditional leaders, imams, and the youth for honoring his invitation. “I am very happy with today’s outcome,” he remarked. “Next year’s edition will be even bigger and more memorable.”
Highlighting the need for progress in education and entrepreneurship within Zongo communities, the Mayor emphasized the importance of creating sustainable opportunities. “Zongo communities need proper education,” he noted.
“We need a university that will educate both Zongo people and others, and we must train our youth to become successful businessmen and women so that Zongo becomes a beautiful place to live,” he added.
