Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, says his recent detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has strengthened, rather than weakened, his resolve to contest for the position of the party’s National Communications Director.
In a statement posted on social media after his release, Mr. Aboagye said he remained “unbroken” and “more ready than ever” to pursue the position, thanking party supporters for their solidarity during his detention.
His comments come four days after he announced his intention to contest for the communications portfolio within the NPP.
Mr. Aboagye disputed reports linking his detention to an alleged GH¢55 million case, insisting that the matter was never discussed during his engagement with EOCO.
“For the records: There was no discussion of any GH¢55 million with me by EOCO. None!!!” he wrote.
He also described narratives surrounding his arrest as false, expressing confidence that “the facts and the truth will prevail.”
The former government spokesperson praised party supporters who protested during his detention, saying their actions went beyond defending him personally.
“You did not just defend Dennis Miracles Aboagye; you defended the principle that no voice can be intimidated into silence,” he stated.
Mr. Aboagye maintained that the experience had only reinforced his determination to lead the NPP’s Communications Directorate.
“If the intention was to break me, it has failed. If the intention was to scare me, it has failed spectacularly. I will lead New Patriotic Party’s Communications Directorate to command the narrative, and no cell, no false story, no intimidation will change that,” he said.
