Dennis Aboagye, also known as Miracles, has rejected claims that officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) questioned him about the alleged GH¢55 million under investigation during his recent detention.
In a statement issued on Tuesday following his release, the aide to the New Patriotic Party 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, said reports suggesting otherwise were false, insisting that the alleged amount never featured in discussions with investigators.
“For the records: There was no discussion of any GH¢55 million with me by EOCO. None!!!” he stated.
Mr. Aboagye, who was arrested by EOCO on July 13 as part of investigations into the alleged misappropriation of funds at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), said he remained resolute despite the experience.
He described his detention as an unsuccessful attempt to intimidate him, coming just a day after he announced his intention to contest for the position of National Communications Director of the NPP.
“A false narrative was put out about my arrest, but Ghanaians are not fools, and neither are the good people of the New Patriotic Party. The facts and the truth will prevail,” he said.
Mr. Aboagye also thanked party supporters who protested during his detention, saying their actions strengthened his resolve.
“You did not just defend Dennis Miracles Aboagye; you defended the principle that no voice can be intimidated into silence.”
Reaffirming his ambition to lead the party’s communications directorate, he maintained that the incident had only reinforced his determination.
“If the intention was to break me, it has failed. If the intention was to scare me, it has failed spectacularly. I will lead New Patriotic Party’s Communications Directorate to command the narrative, and no cell, no false story, no intimidation will change that.”
He further declared that the experience had only added “fuel to the fire” and expressed appreciation to his legal team, party leadership and supporters for standing by him.
Background
EOCO is investigating Mr. Aboagye and former IMCCoD accountant Gerald Appiah over the alleged misappropriation, diversion and theft of about GH¢55 million at the IMCCoD Secretariat. The investigation stems from a petition submitted by the Secretariat’s current Executive Secretary following a forensic audit covering the period between August 2022 and February 2025.
Mr. Aboagye has since been granted GH¢50 million bail with three sureties, while investigations continue.
