The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications has warned mobile money agents who have not completed linking their accounts to their Tax Identification Number (TIN) or Ghana Card to do so by tomorrow, January 31, 2024.
According to the chamber, from February 1, 2024, their respective electronic money issuers (mobile money companies) will restrict their accounts, preventing them from carrying out their operations.
The Chamber revealed in a statement that after several engagements with the Electronic Money Issuers, Ghana Revenue Authority, and the agents, the January 31, 2024, date was agreed upon as the deadline for the agents to complete the linking of the accounts.
“Information about this exercise has already been communicated to all affected agents through multiple channels over the period,” the statement said.
The Telecommunications Chamber added that “we would like to use this press release as a last call-to-action to the agents, by urging them to regularise their operations by linking their accounts to their Ghana Card or TIN if they haven’t already. Failure to do so before the end of Wednesday, January 31, 2024, will lead to the blocking of their accounts.”.
The statement added that agents whose accounts are ultimately blocked would have to contact their EMIs to complete the process.
